Introduction

At the time of Luther, the world situation had become black; there was gross darkness throughout the whole earth. Among those who claimed to have light, the darkness was probably the most intense. This prompted God to react. He selected a vessel out of the midst of the darkness, from within the Catholic Church herself. He used a loyal son of the Catholic Church, just as He formerly had used Paul, a Pharisee of the Pharisees, whom He called out from the deadness of Judaism to react against the darkness of that religion. Luther was selected by God to bring about a shining of the light.
